What is Vaera?
Vaera is a sentient, mobile planet that is a newly established Aid station. Vaera currently has one large city, stationed on one of the larger pieces of land, which is referred to as the Capitol. Whilst there is only one large city, there are several smaller ones that are currently being constructed around the globe, with the help of the populace of Vaera.
How did my character get here?
The theory is that Player Characters had been stepping between something, or between thoughts, and were then pulled in through the Gateway--which was constructed in order to pull characters out of the dimensional rift known as the Between.
What do they arrive with?
Whatever they are currently carrying! If they're pushing along a motorcycle, it will come along with them. If they're carrying an animal, that animal will appear along with them--as long as it's not sentient and capable of being apped by itself.
The Gateway?
The Gateway is a door constructed on the edge of the Capitol. It's surrounded by a magical barrier that is maintained by Vax and Xav, the only two witches currently on Vaera. Whilst the barrier around it is magical, the Gateway itself is run off of a mixture of magic and technology. It was built to try and pull out those who have gotten lost inside the Between.
The Between?
The Between is a rift between space and time. Numerous natives of the world have gone missing into the Between--and not just residence of Vaera, but those who exist across the galaxies. Onlookers will sometimes report a flash of light before the individual disappears, and until the Gateway had been built, there had been minimal success at getting those people back from the Between.
What's the native population like?
There's nothing that's native to Vaera. Vaera had been an empty planet before being terraformed to be able to sustain life on it's surface. Every individual currently living on Vaera had originated somewhere else, so there are plenty of different species from across the galaxies.
How advanced is the technology on Vaera?
Cyberpunkish! Vaera does not have any native sentient species, aside from the planet itself. It's a conglomerate of different people from different sides of the universe, all joined together in order to try and bring back their missing friends and family from the Between.
What about the local fauna?
There are no native species to Vaera, but there are plenty of critters currently making their way around the planet! Think deer with four sets of eyes in an interesting array of colors, rabbits with wings, etc.
How many characters can I play?
Players can currently app 4 characters.
Who can I app?
- Canon characters
- Canon AUs
- Doubles with differing qualities (ie, bookverse Alina and showverse Alina )
- OCs
- Malleable protagonists
- CRAUs
Are there any cast caps? Player caps?
There is currently no cast cap, but some casts may get paused if there are a significant more of that cast in game than others. There is a player cap of 30 players. Please note that this is a private, invite-only game, and those who submit applications without a valid referral will be denied. Referrals can be given by any players currently in game.
What are the age restrictions of Player Characters?
There are no age restrictions, but please use your best judgement if choosing to play a younger character, and keep 18+ game activities to characters who are 18+.
What are activity requirements?
Activity is 5 comments per month per character. These comments can be in IC inboxes, the log comm, or the network comm.
What if I can't make AC?
Please respond to the activity page under your character's header with "HIATUS" instead of linking to activity or if needed, use the mod contact page for excruciating circumstances.
What happens if a character dies in game?
Then they're dead! Rest in peace; there's no current mechanism that brings dead characters back to life. However, there are medkits available with the technology to put characters who are close to death in a temporary cryostasis until they are able to be treated. This will keep characters alive (unless they had their head cut off or something similarly gruesome) for up to 24 hours. This may change later down the road, too.
How do characters communicate with one another?
Upon arrival, characters will be provided with a device called a YDEX. They're very similar to the current day smart watches, and have many of the same functions. These include video, audio, and text capabilities. They also have a translator installed which can be switched on or off at a character's preference. This translator will function for both spoken, and signed languages.
So what about the network?
The network for Player Characters will be set up shortly after the arrival of the first batch of PCs, as a way for those pulled in by the gateway to communicate with one another. While it is not necessarily offered to NPCs, there may be room to change this in the future.
How do characters show on the network?
Upon arrival, Player Characters are prompted to choose how they would like to appear on the network. These are not set in stone, and can be changed in the settings of their YDEX. Characters can also choose to simply go by "anonymous".
What about canon powers?
As long as they're not world breaking, characters are able to keep their abilities. Anything that could decimate the game populace in seconds will not be accessible to them.
Will there be opportunities for characters to gain in-world abilities?
With (some) events! This will also be available as an Rift side effect, which will be explored ~later~ down the line.
Can characters be canon updated?
Yes! Essentially: characters will get pulled through the Rift, and reappear back at the Gateway with their extra canon memories.
Where will characters live?
There are several new housing facilities in the Capitol, and new arrivals are given their choice of basic facilities. These will have one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a living area. They are small, but provide basic necessities.
Are there jobs available?
As Vaera is a young settlement, there are several things available to player characters to pick up on! There are a significant amount of construction and service jobs (restaurants, front desk, etc). Although work is not required for those on planet, it is encouraged if individuals want extra spending money.
What is money like on Vaera? Off planet?
Currency is simply known as Credits, and is universal across the world. There are specific currencies that are only used on certain planets, which may come into play during planetary visits. Food and basic necessities are provided on planet, provided by Vaera's aid funds.
Can you tell me more about the Capitol? The area around it?
The Capitol was built approximately 10 years ago by new settlers moving onto Vaera. It's a cultural melting pot, including bits and pieces from several different species from across the galaxies. Those who live inside the Capitol are mainly soldiers, warriors, medics, and scientists who had gathered together to try and save those who had been stuck inside the Between, and find a way to shut down the Rift.
